My favorite product is Goodnotes.

GoodNotes is a note-taking application that helps individuals capture, edit and manage handwritten notes. It is one of the best handwritten note taking apps out there. This is currently available on the Apple ecosystem — MacBook, iPhone, iPad, but the company is slowly rolling it out for other platforms like Windows. It works seamlessly on iPads along with the apple pencils and this feels as good as taking notes with a pen and paper.

It comes close to traditional note taking with features like inserting shapes, ruler, identifying letters and texts. On top of that the app also adds some digital components to this by letting users erase, cut and paste, insert images, etc.

Some business objectives for Goodnotes -

  1. Replace traditional note taking.
  2. Make a go-to note taking and collaborative tool.

Some user pain points -

  1. Lack of good note taking apps for pencil and paper setup
  2. Lack of handwriting support on traditional note taking apps like Apple Notes, Evernote, Notion, etc.
  3. Lack of tools to annotate pdfs, create diagrams, insert and annotate images.
  4. Collaborate and share notes/documents.

How Goodnotes as one of the best note taking apps solves for these pain points -

  1. Let users create an infinite number of notes.
  2. Let users share and collaborate with other users
  3. Let users use templates like calendar, journal, etc.
  4. Features to replicate traditional note taking -
    a. Handwriting support using fingers, or stencils like apple pencil.
    b. Annotating documents like pdfs.
    c. Highlighting and Erasing texts.
    d. Support for stickers, and shapes.
  5. Apart from traditional note taking, it also has other features useful for a truly digital experience -
    a. Handwriting recognition and conversion to text.
    b. Copying, cutting pasting of texts and shapes — Lasso tool.
    c. Magnifier in case someone has a vision problem.
    c. Pen tool and highlighter customization

How is it better than its competitors?

The most notable competitors for Goodnotes are Notability and One Note.

Goodnotes has an edge over Notability in a few ways -

  1. Lack of template support in Notability.
  2. Lack of to-do lists in Notability.
  3. No freemium support of one time trials in Notability.
  4. Notability is much more expensive than Goodnotes.

Goodnotes has an edge over One Note in a few ways -

  1. Poor notebook management in One Note.
  2. One drive login required in One Note.
  3. Limited storage in the free version in One Note.
